In 1986 the chief curator of documenta 8, Manfred Schneckenburger, asked Michael Erlhoff to become a member of the board of the world-famous art exhibition taking place every five years. Together they decided to involve design and designers for and give them considerable space in the exhibition. Michael Erlhoff was in charge of the concept and the invitations.
