If someone is fascinated, they have inevitably become subject to foreign domination because the word pertains to the so-called ‘fasces’, which were carried by Roman senators in order to symbolise their power and jurisdiction. It was certainly no coincidence that they used bound bundles of rods, i.e. things usually employed to beat up other people. Italian fascism, by the way, was named after precisely these fasces in order to express its power and authority.
Those who subject themselves to that kind of fascination, become devout and susceptible to far-right ideologies.
