Humans have learned only through mistakes.

The industrious designer, architect, engineer, physicist and theorist Buckminster Fuller could base this statement on an abundance of empirical material because many inventions and a considerable number of smart projects in design and architecture and also pioneering theories and ideas are all based on mistakes. The only problem is, on the one hand, to recognise the mistakes and to take them seriously, and, on the other hand, to evaluate which mistakes are simply stupid and superfluous and which ones are related to new insights and perspectives.

This is precisely the quality of true intelligence.
