My (algebraic) methods are really methods of working and thinking; this is why they have crept in everywhere anonymously.

Emmy Noether

Reading this sentence, it is not clear whether Emmy Noether resigned herself to this statement, or whether she made it proudly, or simply pragmatically (as an insight into ignorant reality). But beyond that: How do we interpret this remark, regardless of her own assessment, in view of the fact that it was made by a woman working in a scientific field (abstract algebra and theoretical physics) that is perceived as “abstract” and clearly male-related? Anonymity as quality or once again (female) invisibility?
