“Poetry heals the wounds inflicted by reason.”

Novalis

A representative of German romanticism, Novalis criticizes the Enlightenment by classifying its rationalism as hurtful and juxtaposing reason with art, with aesthetics. An art form made of words, but of other words than those spelled out by reason that thinks it can get by without emotion, empathy and imagination. Thus, for Novalis, poetry becomes an art of healing that rectifies the damage wreaked by reason.
