The difference between traditional and modern political lies essentially amounts to the difference between concealment and annihilation.

If traditional lies, i.e. lies that occurred further back in history, are mainly characterised by concealment and cover-up (bad enough, but that’s what political lies are anyway), they are still lies, but, with a bit of analytical thinking, there is at least a chance to identify and expose them as such. The modern lie, however, is more than just harmful ideology and propaganda: according to Hannah Arendt, it leads directly into the extermination camps.
