Simple usually sounds so simple, but a simple life can be more complicated and unsatisfying than a stressful, perhaps even exhausting, but fulfilling life. An empty life, on the other hand, is boring at best, but more likely it is sad.The fact that she did not receive the Nobel Prize for Chemistry – at least together with Otto Hahn – is scandalous, but Lise Meitner herself apparently did not experienced this affront as “empty”, since her life later on was filled with other awards and good job opportunities.
